FTTN or FTTB? You need a modem.
Fibre-to-the-Node and Fibre-to-the-Building deliver NBN over your existing phone line. A DSL modem converts that signal so your devices can use it. No modem = no internet.
- Already have a DSL modem? Plug in mesh to extend Wi-Fi — no need to replace it.
- Don’t have one? Add ours and pair with mesh for whole-home coverage.
- Mesh-only on FTTN/FTTB won’t work — mesh extends Wi-Fi, it doesn’t convert the DSL signal.
FTTP, FTTC, HFC or Fixed Wireless? Mesh is all you need.
These connections include an NBN box on your wall with an Ethernet port ready to go. Plug a mesh router in and you’ve got Wi-Fi.
- One mesh unit covers a small home or apartment.
- Two units handle a typical 3-bedroom home.
- Three or four cover larger homes, multi-storey, or thick walls.

Common questions
What's the difference between a modem and a mesh?
Why mesh, and why more than one?
A regular router beams Wi-Fi from one spot. Mesh units talk to each other and hand devices off as you walk around — like phone towers, but for your home.
- Solo apartment or studio. One mesh unit. Easy. Tucked next to your modem or the NBN box, you'll have full coverage in 20 minutes.
- 3-bed family home. Two units. Place one near the NBN connection, the other in the back of the house or upstairs. They'll find each other automatically.
- Big family, double-brick, two storeys. Three or four units. Solid Wi-Fi everywhere — kids' rooms, garage, alfresco. No more "I'll be there in a sec, the video froze."
Modem only, modem + mesh, mesh only — what's the difference?
| Setup | Best for | What you get | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Modem only FTTN/FTTB | Living in a small place where one router reaches every room. | Internet works. Wi-Fi covers maybe two rooms well. | Dead zones in the back of the house, weak signal upstairs. |
| Modem + Mesh FTTN/FTTB | Most homes. The default we'd pick if you asked us. | Strong Wi-Fi everywhere. Add more units later as you fill the place out. | Costs a bit more upfront. Pays back the first time you stream from the bedroom. |
| Mesh only FTTP/FTTC/HFC/FW or BYO | Connections that don't need a DSL modem, or households that already have one. | Plug in, scan a QR code, done. | If your connection is FTTN/FTTB and you don't have a modem, mesh alone won't work. |
