Typical Evening Speeds

Discover your nbn potential! Our typical download and upload speeds are assessed between 7 PM and 11 PM. The nbn® Speed Tier reflects the capabilities of the technology installed at your premises. However, keep in mind that actual speeds may vary due to various factors. For detailed insights, check out the Broadband Speeds section below.

^ The nbn® speed tier refers to the maximum speed of the technology installed at your premises. Actual speeds may be slower and will vary.

** This plan is only available for FTTP and certain HFC connection types. Use our address-checking tool on the website to verify if this plan is available to you.

* Typical evening download and upload speeds are measured between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Plan Availability

Higher speed tier plans (500/50Mbps and above) are exclusively available on FTTP and select HFC connection types. Use our website’s address-checking tool to confirm if these plans are accessible for you.

Bandwidth Considerations

While these plans support various activities, heavy concurrent usage may affect speeds and impact your overall nbn® performance. We recommend choosing a plan that matches your household’s typical usage patterns.

Understanding Your Speed Options

For those using Fixed Wireless, FTTB, FTTC, or FTTN technologies, achieving the highest speed tiers may not always be feasible. We cannot guarantee the maximum speed until your service is activated.

If you find that you cannot reach the typical speeds for your selected plan after connecting to a higher speed tier, we will:

  • Notify you of the situation
  • Offer to downgrade your plan with a refund for any overpayment
  • Give you the option to cancel your plan without any penalties

Factors Influencing Your Broadband Speeds

Actual speeds may be affected by a variety of factors, including:

  • Number of simultaneous users – More devices using the connection at once can slow speeds
  • Modem placement – Central location away from interference works best
  • Equipment and software in use – Older devices may not support maximum speeds
  • Type of nbn® technology at your premises (FTTP, HFC, FTTN, etc.)
  • Network capacity and traffic – Peak times may experience congestion
  • Nature of content being downloaded or uploaded

Optimization Tip: To enhance your nbn® experience, consider placing your modem centrally and away from other electronic devices. For personalised assistance on optimising your nbn® performance, don’t hesitate to call us on 1300 876 776.

Technical Limitations and Outages

Please note that your nbn® service will be unavailable during power outages (unless you have an FTTP connection with a backup battery). During such outages, you will be unable to:

  • Make or receive phone calls, including emergency calls (000)
  • Use any back-to-base alarm or medical alarm connected to nbn®

You will need to rely on a mobile phone during power outages to maintain connectivity.

⚠ Important: Medical and Security Alarm Compatibility

If you have a medical or security alarm, it’s crucial to verify its compatibility with an nbn® connection before signing up for our service.

If your alarm is not compatible, please consult your alarm provider for alternative solutions to ensure it operates effectively over nbn®.

You can also register with NBN Co’s Medical Alarm Register for further assistance and priority support during outages.
