FTTN, FTTB, FTTC Co-existence Period and Potential Speed Impact
The Co-existence period refers to the time during which your Go Troppo nbn™ FTTN, FTTB, or FTTC service, which partially relies on the copper network, operates alongside other existing services using the same copper line from your local exchange to your premises. These co-existing services may include:
- ADSL, ADSL2, and ADSL2+
- SHDSL
- ISDN
- Any other copper ULL-based service except VDSL
The Co-existence period starts when nbn™ FTTN, FTTB, or FTTC services first become available in your area and ends once all legacy services listed above are fully disconnected from your local exchange.
Impact on Performance During Co-existence:
The presence of legacy services during this period can temporarily affect the performance of your Go Troppo nbn™ service due to:
- Cross talk interference.
- Downstream power back-off measures applied by NBN Co.
- Other temporary steps taken by NBN Co to manage interactions between the nbn™ service and existing services.
During the Co-existence period, NBN Co considers an nbn™ FTTN, FTTB, or FTTC service to be within specification if the speed achieved is at least:
- 12 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload during Co-existence.
- 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload once the Co-existence period ends, regardless of the speed tier ordered.
Delivering Optimal Speeds with Go Troppo
At Go Troppo, we strive to deliver the highest speeds possible. However, certain factors during the Co-existence period are beyond our control. To ensure you get the best performance:
- We strongly recommend using a Go Troppo-supplied modem for nbn™ FTTN, FTTB, and FTTC services.
- This ensures optimal speeds on your copper line and allows us to provide the highest level of technical support.
