Bring Your Own Modem (BYO) Setup Guide
Using your own modem with GoTroppo? Great choice! This guide will walk you through the simple setup process.
Important: GoTroppo Uses IPoE (Not PPPoE)
GoTroppo uses IPoE (DHCP / IP over Ethernet) technology, which is simpler than the older PPPoE method used by some providers. The key difference:
Old Method (PPPoE)
- Requires username and password
- More complicated setup
- Can be slower to connect
GoTroppo Method (IPoE)
- No username or password needed
- Automatic connection
- Faster and more reliable
Quick Setup Summary (All Modems)
Regardless of which modem you have, the settings are the same:

| Username | Leave blank (not required) |

Troubleshooting
No Internet After Changing Settings?
- Double-check the connection type is set to DHCP/Dynamic IP/IPoE (not PPPoE)
- Make sure username/password fields are empty
- Try a factory reset on your modem and set it up fresh
- Check the ethernet cable is firmly connected to your NBN box
- Try a different UNI-D port on your NBN connection box (usually UNI-D1)
Coming from TPG, iiNet, or Internode?
These providers use PPPoE, so your modem will have username/password saved. Make sure to:
- Change connection type from PPPoE to DHCP/Dynamic IP
- Delete the saved username and password
- Save and restart
Modem Shows Connected But No Internet?
Sometimes the NBN connection box needs to “learn” your new modem. Try:
- Turn off your NBN connection box (the NBN-branded box on your wall)
- Turn off your modem
- Wait 5 minutes
- Turn on the NBN box first, wait for lights to stabilise
- Then turn on your modem
